The flipped classroom involves moving entry level information from within, to outside of the classroom.
The basic premise is that direct instruction, or lecturing, is not conducted in large groups. Instead, the direct instruction is delivered individually, usually through teacher created videos. This time shift then frees up face to face class time for richer, more meaningful learning experiences for our students.
In a very simplified way, it allows for a teacher to move from being a sage on the stage to becoming a guide on the side where lessons are punctuated with high levels of student engagement and greater student – student and teacher – student relationships.
